India's most wanted terrorist Yasin Bhatkal’s real estate project in Nallasopara (E) has come to a halt, with the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) demolishing parts of the structure for the past three days. The municipality is now bracing for a legal battle to dismantle the entire structure.
According to the VVMC officials, the demolition drive was carried out after they learnt of the continuing illegal construction at Poonam Paradise building near Gajanan High School at Oswal Nagari (More village) in Nallasopara (E). “We carried out a survey to know if Bhatkal-sponsored project was legal and found out otherwise. So, we issued them notices and demolished parts of the structures,” said C-ward assistant commissioner Smita Bhoir.
About the change of name of Poonam Paradise, Bhoir said, “We were told that its name has been changed to Royal Plaza, but our team which visited the spot found that these were two different structures with a distance of five feet between them.” Deputy director of VVMC’s town planning department Y Shiva Reddy confirmed that “no work had been issued to either Royal Plaza as well as Poonam Paradise and hence both are illegal”.
But, the authorities cannot raze the entire building as the developer has got a stay order for both the ground plus one structures, even as they are vigilant that the illegal building is not built any further than specified in the stay order. Hence the demolition of any work taken up post-stay order.Anothercivic official said an FIR in this regard was been filed on May 31, following which 18 persons were booked under various sections of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning(MRTP) Act, 1966.
“We will be giving the police 12 more names in a day or two,” said C-ward official Subhash Sankhe.
