SEZ Virodhi Manch guns for Parrikar

MARGAO: Reacting to the statement made by chief minister Manohar Parrikar in the assembly that SEZ land cannot be returned to the original owners, SEZ Virodhi Manch condemned Parrikar's stance and demanded that the land be returned.

If land acquired for airport parking can be de-notified and returned to the original owners even though the land is actually required for parking at the airport, then why can't the land acquired for the industrial estate given to SEZ companies for real estate purposes be reverted to the original owners?" said Franky Monteiro, SEZ working president.

Monteiro pointed out that the allotments clearly reveal that the lands were originally acquired for an industrial estate using the urgency clause without the actual requirement of setting up an industrial estate.

"In the alternative, the land should be utilized by the government for utility projects such as educational hubs with professional colleges, hospitals, sports city in consent with or as decided by gram sabhas of the villages concerned," added Monteiro.
